The work presented in this exhibition is just a snapshot of the year-long process students undertake on their SAT folio. Students write an Exploration Proposal and gather and respond to extensive research and inspiration. They trial and explore themes, imagery, styles, materials and techniques as they continue to visualize their ideas. All work is thoroughly documented in a visual diary, annotated and explained with reflection documents at key stages of the process. Image from Emily Cain, exploration in paint, 2021.

Thomas Hall
Thomas was exploring a conceptual theme of Fear of the Unknown. While initially this was focused around the unknown future of a Year 12 student growing up and leaving school, in hindsight, it is a very relevant theme for all of us in 2021!

Tom's second final artwork, a digital drawing, expresses fear of the unknown through the symbols of a skull and a brain - our thoughts and fears that may terrify us or fill our minds and shut out the light.

Emily's theme was the Ocean, and her goal was to explore imagery that creates a sense of happiness and calmness in the viewer.
This piece is a mixed media work, with spray paint on a board background and wave made from layers of string, wire and various threads to provide a textured and tactile effect.

This extra-large acrylic paint on canvas has heavily textured sky and ocean, made by using impasto gel. The contrasting colours and textural work are a companion piece to the Wave, exploring emotions we feel when we are at the ocean, and the sense of freedom the ocean symbolizes.
Emily Cosgriff

Emily Cosgriff
Emily explored the theme of nature and her goal was to incorporate imagery portraiture or elements of a person with imagery of nature to express how we are entwined with the natural world, and how we each experience nature in our lives.

The theme of my artwork was growth, my pieces are showing growth because you see a little tree going out of a baby’s head, and then in the next art piece, you see an adult with a big tree. The baby has grown and so has the tree. It gives an insight into the evolution of people and nature.
Jade Griffiths

In Jade's second piece, we see the baby and the tree have grown. The colours have also evolved from natural colours representing birth, to bright and inspiring and confident colours representing growth and womanhood.
Hannah Werner
Artist Statement
Hannah Werner
Hannah explored the idea of beauty in her folio and wished to express beauty in different ways, both literal and abstract. This piece uses pinata inks to depict pure beauty in the form of colour and the interaction of individual colours blending naturally with others.

Hannah Werner
Hannah's theme of beauty is expressed here with a high impact image of the classic red stiletto shoes against a neutral background, reminiscent of foundation or make-up. The work doesn't intend to comment, but to present one aspect of beauty in an iconic pop culture manner.
Georgia Power
Artist Statement
Georgia Power
Georgia was exploring the dual aspects of beauty, beauty in the world around us, as well as beauty within us all. This work is inspired by travel and the diverse beauty of our earth, integrated with self-love and self-worth.

Janella Ramos
Artist Statement
Janella Ramos
Janella's concept explored this year was "Intensity". Inspired by cinema, theatre, literature and music, Janella has represented a collage of paintings on canvas that create a sense of chaos and highly intense and confrontational imagery, expressing a narrative of the central character's battle with depression.
Janella Ramos

Janella Ramos
Janella's second artwork complements her collage, yet has a wholly different approach to intensity. Here the viewer is drawn into a mesmerizing cosmos of the great unknown, filled with never-ending thoughts and emotions of existentialism.
Ruby Ristevski
Artist Statement
Ruby Ristevski
Ruby was highly inspired by the 1990s and sought to depict the grunge aesthetic of that era. Using portraiture to represent the fashions, hair and make up of the time, Ruby is also here delving deeper and representing the diversification of society and the greater acceptance of different cultures - all women are equally beautiful.

In Ruby's second work she reflects on the strength and beauty of the individual - despite struggles, the woman stands proud and beautiful.
Bethany Seiffert

Bethany Seiffert
Bethany was exploring the concept of Hope in her folio explorations this year. Beth progressed from realism to semi-abstract painting, expressing essential elements of a landscape or skyscape with a few brushstrokes and symbolic colour to express that there is hope beyond the darkness.

Bethany Seiffert
"I was inspired to do the theme hope because of humanity and the people around
me have inspired me to choose this theme. The world went into a dark period in
2020 and lots of people started feeling unmotivated so I wanted to show that life
can still be beautiful and that there is a light in the darkness".
Visual Communication Design

Visual Communication Design
As with Studio Arts, Visual Communication Design involves an extensive process. Students write a brief and work through the design process on two design needs for their client. The requirements also involve meeting criteria including research, observational and visualisation drawings, technical drawings, using a wide range of methods, material and media and demonstrating design thinking, including detailed annotations. The image shown is from Unit 3 work, Emily Bojczuk 2021.
